Reseller Fees by Marketplace in 2025: eBay, Mercari, Etsy, Facebook & More

Platform fees eat directly into your profit margin. Here's the complete, up-to-date breakdown of selling fees for every major resale marketplace in 2025.

📊

Fees are unavoidable in reselling, but knowing the exact numbers means you can price correctly from the start rather than discovering your margins were thinner than expected after the sale.

eBay — 12.9% + $0.30 per order

eBay's final value fee is 12.9% of the total sale amount (item price + shipping) for most categories, plus $0.30 per order. Some categories differ: - Motors (vehicles): $35 flat fee - Musical instruments, gear: 5.85% - Books, DVDs, music: 14.95%

Free listings: 250 zero-insertion-fee listings per month for most sellers. After that, $0.35 per listing.

Mercari — 10% + 2.9% + $0.30 payment processing

Mercari's effective fee is approximately 13.1% on most transactions: - Selling fee: 10% - Payment processing: 2.9% + $0.30

Mercari provides prepaid shipping labels (USPS, UPS, FedEx). Shipping is charged to the buyer unless you offer free shipping.

Facebook Marketplace — 5% (min $0.40)

The lowest fees of any major marketplace. Facebook charges 5% per shipment, with a minimum of $0.40. Local pickup (no shipping) is completely free — no fees at all. Best for large, bulky items where shipping would be expensive.

Etsy — 6.5% transaction + $0.20 listing + payment processing

Etsy's fee structure: - Transaction fee: 6.5% of total (item + shipping) - Listing fee: $0.20 per item (renewable every 4 months) - Payment processing: 3% + $0.25

Etsy Plus subscription ($10/month) gives credits for listings and ads, worth it if you list frequently.

OfferUp — 12.9%

OfferUp's selling fee is 12.9% of the item price for shipped items. Local cash transactions have no fees.

Craigslist — Free (mostly)

Craigslist charges $5 per posting only for vehicles and certain job listings. For general merchandise, it's free. Local cash pickup only — no payment processing.

The Fee Impact on Margin

If you buy an item for $20 and sell it for $50 on eBay with $5 shipping: - Sale total: $55 (item + shipping) - eBay fee: 12.9% × $55 + $0.30 = $7.40 - Net to you: $55 − $7.40 = $47.60 - Profit: $47.60 − $20 − $5 = $22.60 (not the $30 you'd calculate without fees)

ResellPilot's Profit Calculator handles this automatically: enter your cost basis and it shows exact net profit and ROI after platform fees and shipping for all 6 marketplaces simultaneously.
